History of Scottburgh

Scottburgh, where the Indian Ocean and Mphambanyoni River convene, was where transport tycoons shifted their harbour-building efforts from the failures at Mkomazi River mouth in the 1860's.

Scottburgh was named after colonial Governor John Scott, and it was the first settlement to be established south of Durban, but not the first successful port. The vision was scrapped within a few years.
