THE LEGEND OF TRUNKO : 100 YEARS ON AND TRUNKO WILL LIVE ON HAPPILY EVER AFTER IN THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF CHILDREN VISITING MARGATE.  

Margate is South Africa’s favourite holiday destination and popular for whale watching. But in 1922, visitors and locals, albeit a handful, were treated to one of the most amazing sea battles ever recorded. On November the 02nd, land owner Hugh Ballance and a few witnesses observed something incredible just off Margate Beach.

Mayor Shusha Receives Margate UK Memorabillia

At a press conference held on 8 October 2009 in the HCM Council offices, Ingrid Ashwin (Acting Chair Margate Centenary Committee) thanked Diane Duncan (Chairperson Margate Business Association) for representing Margate SA during a visit with the Mayor of Margate UK.

Margate Mardi Gras

 The Margate Mardi Gras took place last night Wednesday 30 September 2009. 

Fortunately we only had a few minutes of “sprinkles” which did not deter our holiday makers from investigating every stall and open shop on the night.  Business was reported to be very good which is conducive to excellent feedback we have received in relation to the economic success of the season.

Mark Field supplied excellent music and the Margate Primary School Drummies once again provided a lovely touch to this music filled entertainment and shopping extravaganza.

A Story Of Days Gone By

In the 1960s the pretty little village of Ramsgate consisted of a garage, general dealers, two estate agents, a hairdressing salon, several blocks of holiday flats, the post office, a delightful lagoon side restaurant, a bowling green and three well patronized hotels.
