Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve

The Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve was proclaimed on 4 January 1973 and, with subsequent additions, is now 2189 ha in size. It is a secluded coastal getaway set inland of the South Coast near Umzinto.

It’s densely wooded slopes, open grassland ridges and clear views of the ocean makes it a perfect place for getting in touch with nature while having fun in quiet and relaxed surroundings. This reserve has 56 mammals species which includes: Zebra, Blue Wildebeest, Bush Buck, Blesbok, Impala, Oribi, Reedbuck, Blue and Grey Duiker, etc. There are 7 fish species, 23 amphibian species as well as over 300 confirmed bird species.
